Every year, nearly 2,500 FFA members gather from all corners of the state for a week filled with competition, recognition, and leadership growth. Beyond the convention sessions and career-focused events, students with a passion for music can audition for the Kansas FFA Band or Chorus. These ensembles are open to any member eager to showcase their talent and be part of something special.
WHY AUDITION?
Members interested in the Kansas FFA Band or Chorus can look forward to:
- A week immersed in music, developing new skills and deepening their understanding of performance.
- Opportunities to connect with fellow members from across Kansas and its districts.
- Meaningful interactions with the individuals who help make FFA possible.
- Unforgettable experiences filled with friendship, fun, and visits to exciting locations.
Being part of the Kansas FFA Band was an unforgettable experience for me. Each year, only a small fraction of Kansas FFA members are selected through auditions, making these programs both competitive and highly respected. With typically just 30 to 50 members chosen for the Band and Chorus, earning a spot is a true honor. While the audition process can feel intimidating at first, the reward is an experience filled with growth, connection, and lasting joy.
But don’t just take my word for it—here’s what other members had to say:
“Being in the Kansas FFA State Choir has been an absolute blast. So far I’ve made a handful of friends from schools all across Kansas. It gives me a glimpse of how music is taught in other schools and how we can learn from each other. Being “Bucket Boy” was also a fun experience bringing a little bit more light to the convention just by playing on a 5 gallon bucket. Making people smile was my favorite part of being in the choir these past years. Can’t wait for the next ones to come!”
- Jhett Johnson, Phillipsburg FFA, Kansas FFA Chorus 2024-25
Jhett earned the nickname “Bucket Boy” after playing on a bucket during the choir’s performance, a moment that made him widely recognized—even by people he had never met. In a similar way, another attendee captured the audience’s attention by standing in the limelight during a band performance.
“Being part of the Kansas FFA Band has been a highlight of my summer every year. It’s more than just music—it’s friendships, memories, and being with people who share the same passion as me. Performing for sessions when everyone is full of energy and excitement is truly an experience. If you’re on the fence about applying I say just do it. You won’t regret joining this amazing group!”
- Kaitlyn Webb, Cheney FFA, Kansas FFA Band 2023-25
